Challenges and uncertainty have marked the past year for Israel and its people. It began with the horrific terror attacks on October 7, 2023, in the Gaza Strip, leading to the longest conflict since Israel’s War of Independence in 1948. This prolonged war has drawn in threats from Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Iran, and various terrorist groups in the West Bank.
For more than a year, the tourism industry came to a standstill. As a tour guide, I have always emphasized the safety of traveling in Israel, sharing genuine confidence in the security and stability of our beautiful country. However, that sense of safety vanished in a single day. The flight disruptions, cancellations, and the hesitancy of foreign airlines to fly to Israel left me with minimal bookings and interrupted my work as a tour guide and VIP service provider at Ben Gurion Airport.
But today, a milestone has been reached: a 60-day ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. While it is not the definitive end of the war, it marks the beginning of hope and the possibility of broader de-escalation.
A Safer Ben Gurion Airport
Despite the turmoil, Ben Gurion Airport has remained resilient. Even during the peaks of hostility, rocket salvos from Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran avoided the airport. Now, with the recent military actions degraded the capabilities of rocket fire from Gaza and Lebanon, Ben Gurion Airport is even safer for travelers.
The ceasefire brings optimism. As stability returns, I believe foreign airlines will soon resume flights to Israel, bringing more visitors and allowing me to welcome them with my specialized services.
