Is It Safe to Travel to Israel Now? July 2025 Update

Green Zones Return: British Travel Advice for Israel

The security situation in Israel is getting better. On 3 July 2025, the British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advice. The official map now shows most of Israel in green, meaning travel is allowed in many areas.

Where Travel Is Allowed

You can travel in most parts of Israel without special restrictions. However, some areas still have warnings. For example, FCDO advises:

  1. No travel to Gaza – it is completely off-limits.
  2. No travel within 500m of Gaza’s border – this remains dangerous.
  3. No travel to Tulkarm, Jenin, and Tubas Governorates in the West Bank, except Route 90.
  4. Essential travel only to other areas of the West Bank, except major cities like East Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Jericho, and roads connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem (Highway 1, Route 443, Highway 45).
  5. No travel within 500m of the Alpha line in the Golan Heights and no entry through Syria.
  6. No travel to Sheba’a Farms and Ghajja.
  7. Essential travel only to areas within 500m of Lebanon’s border.

My Comment on FCDO Language

The FCDO uses terms like Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs) and Occupied Golan Heights. Personally, I disagree with this terminology. I believe disputed territories is a more correct phrase, although my own views on these regions are clear.

Recent Events

In June, there were missile and drone attacks between Israel and Iran. A ceasefire started on 24 June, but the situation is still fragile and could change quickly.

Israel has lifted its nationwide state of emergency and reopened its airspace. However, it may take some time for flights to return to normal.

Important Travel Notes

  1. Always check Home Front Command instructions if you are in Israel.
  2. Rocket attacks can still happen, and falling debris is dangerous. Stay alert.
  3. Borders and airports can close with little warning.

Final Advice

Travel in Israel is possible now in many areas, but always stay updated with local news, official travel advice, and instructions from Israeli authorities before and during your visit.
